Derek was also a master in Wado-Ryu karate and Judo and has trained with many of the well known masters of other styles such as Tatsuo Suzuki.

Gendo-Kai karate is also about ettiquette and discipline and each session is started with a formal bow, adhering to the system that was popular in Japan at the turn of the 20th Century. Derek’s philosophy was to train as hard as possible to make ones fighting easier.

The club is predominantly run at Hull University where an annual committee is elected to organise training and social events.

The club prides itself in maintaining the standards that were instituted by the late Sensei Lorrisson.

Gen is Japanese for hard and consequently Gendo-Kai is an aggressive style of karate.
